Hi Jamie! I'm Andrea, Cara's friend and roommate from ECU. We’ve never met but I’ve heard such great things about you! I’m so happy for the both of you that I even had to cry. I hadn’t really known Cara for a long time, maybe for a couple months, before we moved in together at college. I was sooo ready to get out of the dorms and needed a place to stay. Ana mentioned that Cara and another one of her friends was moving into an apartment that fit three people and they could use another person. I was a little nervous about it, but decided it would be for the best. When my mom, now, husband, and I showed up with our truck and van load of stuff, Cara and Trisha were already there all moved in and bonding on Cara’s bed. I thought to myself “Gees, what did I get myself into?? They probably aren’t going to like me because I’m just a country girl from Podunk nowhere and they seem to be a little more classier than I!” I was going to feel uncomfortable at first, but I took it in stride and came to realize that we all seemed to get along well, and sometimes, not so much, but we managed. I really thought I was in trouble when I was getting ready to cook dinner one night (closer to moving in) and Cara asked me if she could help. I said “Sure!” I told her she could make the corn and then I handed her a can of corn. She took it and looked at it and then said, “How do I make this?” I laughed because I THOUGHT she was kidding, but turned out she wasn’t. I showed her how to make the corn, along with a few other things, and she caught on fast! I was so proud of her the first time she made some chicken on her own! I used to have to dress Cara—well actually I stood in her closet pulling things out for her to try on and then for her to take off and throw on the floor. I would sit up with her at night and talk about how our days went and things we needed to vent about, until Cara couldn’t keep her eyes open, then I’d turn out her light and shut her door. I would make my final rounds of the house to lock all doors and turn out all lights and then go on to bed myself. I guess I felt like I needed to protect my roomies. We would occasionally drive each other to class and pick each other up, go to the rec center to burn off our calories, and then go out and drink them back on. I was happy for her when she was happy and I tried to be supportive when she wasn’t. I tried to keep her focused and motivated and yet make her relax by going out dancing. I tried to protect her from bad “things”(and I think we know he was) and back her up when she went back for round two. She took me to her house to share Easter with her and her family and I brought her to my house to be in my wedding. I had only known her for little over a year but it didn’t take me that long to realize what a great person and friend that Cara really is. Though busy schedules, time, and distance may keep us from hanging out, she will forever, everyday, be with me in my heart. You are so lucky to have her in yours and I know you probably already figured that! Cara, like the first great meal you made on your own, I’m proud that you finally found a great person to share the rest of your meals with. We wish you guys the best of luck. Congratulations to the both of you! Love ya!!!
